APRIL is National Volunteer Month

National Volunteer month in the United States takes place in the month of April. Volunteering is still instilled at a young age within our country. Most organizations within our towns, counties and state would not function without volunteers. In many families, volunteerism is handed down for many generations.

Many fire and rescue departments remain staffed due to the efforts of volunteers. Although Frederick County has a combination system, meaning both career and volunteers staff our departments, the majority of department personnel are volunteers.

Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. They come with all different types of backgrounds and knowledge. They pick a cause to volunteer for because they want to make a difference in someone’s life. Some are small differences and others create major changes. Volunteers come to donate their time and resources most often to the efforts of a larger organization and their missions provide valuable support to communities in times of need.

The following departments will be participating in National Volunteer Day on April 15, 2018:

Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue Company & Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department will be hosting their SAFETY DAY at 1500 Volunteer Drive in Brunswick

Graceham Volunteer Fire Company

Middletown Volunteer Fire Company

New Market District Volunteer Fire Department

Urbana Volunteer Fire Department

All of these departments will be available for touring from noon to 4:00 pm.

More information and a roster of participating Departments is available at www.mdvolunteers.org

So if you are out and about this weekend in Frederick County, stop by one of these departments and see what they have to offer. Offer your services or ask how you can help. Departments are seeking new members to Volunteer as Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Administrative Support personnel. We hope to inspire you to serve too.

Otherwise, THANK A VOLUNTEER, as this month is dedicated to honoring ALL of the volunteers in our communities as well as encouraging volunteerism.

If you are interested in volunteering with us, sign up at www.gearupfirerescue.com. We look forward to meeting you soon.
