The new Brunswick Fire Station is located at 1500 Volunteer Drive in the Brunswick Crossing Subdivision. You may go to the fire company's website at www.bvfd5.org to view more pictures. Mon, 31 Oct 2011 12:59:06 GMT http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=265 New Polaris 6x6.. ATV-3 http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=258 This unit was purchased to assist our company with special events i.e., The Outlaw Jam held at the Frederick Fair Grounds, various arts and music festivals held on the Carroll Creek Project, Frederick City's annual Fourth of July Celebration at Baker Park, Frederick City's annual In The Streets, etc. In addition to special events, it was intended to assist with emergency responses within Company 3's first due area as well as if needed throughout Frederick County. It has become abundantly clear that there are many areas throughout the county where large apparatus including Emergency Medical apparatus, just cannot make access to patients. Therefore, we are willing to allow this unit to respond to both emergency and non-emergency events throughout the county, as needed. Tue, 11 Oct 2011 13:42:17 GMT http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=258 Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance and Rescue Company #19 ~ Boat Support 19 http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=237 Brunswick Volunteer Ambulance & Rescue has been operating this boat support unit since March of this year. The vehicle chassis was purchased through the state vehicle contract with all modifications done to the truck by the volunteers of the company. Total cost of the vehicle with modifications and radios is at $55,000.00. A substantial savings compared to other vehicles used for the same purpose. This unit is a 4 wheel drive, F-350 with a gas engine. As seen in the pictures the two full extension roll out trays carries all the Water Rescue Equipment needed at the scene of an incident and the equipment cache exceeds the county standards. Due to the remote locations of their water rescue responses (off the C&O Canal to the Potomac River) the company needed to have all equipment close to where the boat is deployed or where the victim is located. This unit is used to pull the company's boat and have room for 5 Swiftwater Techs. So far in 2011 this unit has responded to 10 Water Rescue Calls and the company has had 8 training classes involving their response partners in Washington County MD. (Potomac Valley Fire Co. - Dargan) and Jefferson County WV (Independent Fire Co. - Charlestown). BVA& R covers 15 miles of the Potomac River and 8 miles of the Shenandoah River with the first due dispatch. The unit was also purchased with a Snow Plow to assist the ambulances during snow events and to keep the parking area clear around the building. The Frederick County Fire & Rescue Museum and Preservation Society, Inc. is dedicated to the preservation and presentation of the historic fire companies and emergency services that have protected our county for nearly 250 years. We welcome you as member, and encourage your participation and assistance in building a permanent home for our museum. Please complete the attached application and mail to: Frederick County Fire & Rescue Museum P. O. Box 382 Emmitsburg, MD 21727 Wed, 14 Jul 2010 15:01:30 GMT http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=140 Volunteering To Help Your Neighbors, Friends, and Family http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=136 ACTION - The alert tone sounds and the station moves into action. Regardless of the nature of the call, it means that someone needs your help. Donning your protective clothing and staffing a piece of fire apparatus or an ambulance, you are part of the emergency response system. You feel it, your heart beating stronger as the race begins to save a life or someone's property. After joining a fire department or rescue squad and serving a probationary period, your service is reviewed and, if satisfactory, you become an active member of that department. You have met the first challenge. Of course, while you have a chance to help someone on each alarm, you won't fight fires or use your emergency medical skills every day. Therefore, continued training is the only way to improve and sharpen your skills. This builds self-confidence and teamwork. Each training course or drill session you complete is a step up the ladder of achievement. SKILLS - It takes a dedicated person to volunteer. You do not become a firefighter or emergency medical technician just by filling out an application. Training within the fire and rescue service is extensive, challenging, and ongoing. As a firefighter, you will receive professional instruction in the theory of fire attack, how to use self-contained breathing apparatus, conduct victim search and rescue, and much more. Emergency medical technicians are taught patient care and stabilization skills. Realize, however, that these skills are not just utilized while volunteering your time in the fire and rescue service. These skills last a lifetime. TEAMWORK - The fire departments and rescue squads of Frederick County are comprised mostly of volunteer personnel. These men and women respond to over 20,000 requests for help each year, dedicating themselves to this important service and providing outstanding protection to our citizens and visitors. It is a well known fact that firefighting and rescue work can be very hazardous. While the risk is high, our training will prepare you to respond. The personal rewards are incomparable. It is this spirit of teamwork which prevails to resolve each incident and insure your safety. Every volunteer department in Frederick County can use your time and energy. Once trained, your skills will continue a great tradition of neighbors helping neighbors. FELLOWSHIP - While responding to emergencies is the purpose that the fire and rescue departments exist, there are many activities associated with operating a fire or rescue department beyond alarm responses. These include building and equipment maintenance and upkeep, the administrative duties associated with operating a corporation, fire prevention and public fire safety education, and fundraising to pay for certain operating expenses and capital expenditures. The fire and rescue departments in Frederick County continue to raise a large portion of the funds required to provide fire and rescue service. Assistance is always needed in these areas. PRIDE - Pride is the driving force behind every dedicated volunteer. It's a great feeling to be part of a lifesaving operation or to successfully extinguish a fire. You can share in this pride as a member of a fire department or rescue squad serving Frederick County. PROGRESS MEANS YOU - Volunteers started each fire department and rescue squad in Frederick County and continue to provide service in most of them with the assistance of career personnel. The need for volunteer personnel has not diminished. In fact, it has increased now more than ever. If you want to be part of the progress in the County, become a member of the TEAM, experience the ACTION, climb the steps to ACHIEVEMENT, demonstrate your SKILLS, and reap the BENEFITS, and above all, show a little PRIDE. BENEFITS - Volunteers receive a good benefit package for their time and service: Training opportunities Length of Service Awards Program (LOSAP) Life insurance Worker's Compensation Insurance Income tax incentive Social functions Meet new friends Wed, 28 Jul 2010 13:35:05 GMT http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=136 Elyssa Cool chosen MSFA Miss Fire Prevention 2010-2011 http://www.fcvfra.com/apps/public/news/newsView.cfm?News_ID=133 Miss Frederick Co. Fire Prevention, Elyssa Cool participated in the Maryland State Firemen's Association's Miss Fire Prevention Contest last Monday, June 14, 2010 during the annual convention in Ocean City. Elyssa competed against 9 other young women from around the state. She attended a workshop Sunday morning, presented a five minute fire prevention presentation/interview with the judges on Monday morning, followed by the on-stage contest portion Monday afternoon. There were approximately 30 people from Frederick Co. in the audience to hear Elyssa's name announced as the winner, including her fan club from the Vigilant Hose Company. Katy Norman from Cecil County was named MSFA Miss Fire Prevention 1st runner-up. Elyssa did an amazing job in Ocean City, representing Frederick County. We are very proud of her! If you would like to invite Elyssa and/or Katy to attend your department function, their contact information will be made available in the members area.
