On June 2, 1903, Junior Fire Company No. 2 of Frederick put two gray horses, Dan and Billy, into service to pull the Firehouse Steamer. During the company’s Horse Era, which lasted from 1903 to 1913, it owned at least five horses. The other named horses were Frank, Prince, and John. Two of those horses are seen in this photo.
