"Old Lady" Article Published in Regional History Magazine

The history of the Frederick County fire service has expanded to a new readership with the publication of the article "Lydia and the Old Lady" in the most recent edition of Catoctin History Magazine. The article, written by Clarence "Chip" Jewell, Director of Emergency Communications and Assistant Chief of the Libertytown Vol. Fire Dept., provides a history of the hand tub pumper once owned by both the United Steam Fire Engine Company No. 3 and the United Volunteer Fire Company of Libertytown. The article also highlights the return of the pumper to Frederick County thanks to the watchful eye of the late Lydia Butterworth, former secretary of Uniteds.
