May 4, 2004 For 17 years, Engine 151 has sat forgotten in a remote spot of the New Market District Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company’s compound. But the company’s first firetruck will soon be drawing stares of admiration again. Firefighters are raising funds to restore the 1955 Ford F750 as a tribute to founding members of the company. The goal is to use the truck as a “show piece” at area parades and carnivals, said Chris Beard, company historian. Much of the $10,000 raised so far has come from donations made in the memory of two fallen comrades, he said, including the company’s first fire chief, James Hahn.
