In June of 2008 I was thru hiking on the Appalachian Trail near Harpers Ferry. While taking a break to take in the view from Weaverton Cliffs, I broke my leg. My hiking partner used my SPOT personal locator to call 911 and Frederick County was one of many to respond. After tremendous effort and teamwork personnel were able to get me off of the mountain and to an ambulance where I was taken to Frederick Memorial. I was treated for a distal fibula fracture at the ER and after arriving back home in Tennessee was found to also have a distal tibia fracture, cuboid fracture, calcaneous fracture and a torn peroneous tendon.

It's been over a year now, 12 weeks in a cast, 8 weeks in a boot and a lot of physical therapy, but I just wanted to express my deepest gratitude to all who worked so hard in the heat and humdity that day to carry me off the mountain.

Thank you and God Bless !

I have a deep concern and wanted to ask for every member company's assistance as well as the entire FCVFRA.

I am sure everyone has been aware from listening to the News the past two to three weeks that there have been some very devistating residential fires in the state of Maryland. Some of these fires took many lives.

In several cases there were NO working smoke alarms in the residences.

I ask that when you respond to a fire, PLEASE check the dwelling for a working, operatable smoke alarm. If the residence does not have one, PLEASE go to Diane Sears and obtain a new alarm, and install it in the residence. Of course that would be impossible, if damage is too severe, but please install one if at all possible. Please do not just give it to the residents, for many times they do not get installed and will just remain in the box. This was the case in Harford County about two years ago. Multiple deaths in a house fire which took several lives, smoke alarm was found on the kitchen table and still in the box. I personally saw this alarm after the fire.

If the residents are hard of hearing or deaf, I can obtain a hearing impaired smoke alarm for them, just let me know.

Fire Deaths are up in the state of Maryland, reported by MD State Fire Marshall Bill Bernard at a recent meeting I attended. So, let us in Frederick County do everything we can to keep our residents safe by making sure everyone has a working smoke alarm, and there are NO fire deaths in Frederick County in the future.

Thank You

Great website, looks good. I was actually hoping to get in touch with someone from this area. My department is sending a crew down to participate in the National Fallen Firefighters Memorial ceremonies in October. Our past chief is being added to the memorial this year. We were hoping to hook up with a department in the area so we could change when we got there instead of wearing our uniforms on the bus for the trip. We may be able to do some shirt/patch swapping as well. We would like to be able to meet up with some of our brothers and sisters from the Emmitsburg area in doing this as well. If anyone might be able to help, or would like more information, i can be reached via email at Thank you in advance, and hello from Horseheads NY.

Enjoyed seeing FCVFRA web site. FCVFRA must remain as the leadership association to support and keep the volunteers of the fire service informed and represented in Frederick County and within the State of Maryland. FCVFRA in recent years has taken a step foward to demostrate to the fire service in Maryland that you are a progessive association in the interest of fire safety and leadership.

The FCVFRA Fire and Injury Prevention Committee is also available, as you all are very aware of, to set up information tables and provide you with many materials, as you may need at your events. The committee is also looking forward to being a very active partner with the Emergency Prepardness Department in any way they can.
Parade season is coming up, if you would like the Miss FCVFRA Fire Preventions to take part in your parade or in any event you may be planning, please let me know.

Remember, the easiest fire to put out is one you prevent!

Thank You ALL for the fine job you do in Fire and Injury Prevention!!

Iam conducting some research on firehouse histories. I was hoping someone could tell me what year the United's Firehouse was originally built. Also if the Original quarters of the Junior's still stand. Any help would be appreciated.
