Frederick County will observe National Recovery Month in September by launching Frederick County goes Purple. “Go Purple” is a substance abuse awareness program that empowers us to take a stand to reduce substance-related abuse and deaths and overdoses.

This massive community wide observance will take place during National Recovery Month in September demonstrating the county supports those in active addition, recovery. The campaign promotes messages like: We care, know hope/help is available here and let us talk.
According to the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, there were 279 nonfatal and 55 fatal opioid-related overdoses in Frederick County in 2018. This is a national crisis, but hits closer to home now more than ever as Frederick’s own opioid crisis continues to grow.

Frederick County Goes Purple is a partnership between the nonprofit organization crossedBRIDGES, Frederick County government, Frederick County Chamber of Commerce, Frederick County Health Department, Frederick County Public Schools, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick County municipalities, community organizations, private businesses and individual community members.

Addition affects us all whether we know it not. Frederick “Go Purple” is sending a message that help is out there and no one is alone. Together our community can help stop the rising of the opioid epidemic. This is Frederick Count’s first initiative in an overarching effort to improve the lives of all of those in the Frederick area.

The entire community is encouraged to “go purple” to bring awareness and understanding of mental health and substance use disorders, and to celebrate those living in recovery.
