While many youths are spending countless hours on social media, a few in Frederick County have put down their phones.
They are not only learning about fire prevention and life safety initiatives, but they'll be taking their message on the road as they represent the Frederick County Volunteer Fire and Rescue Association.
The ambassadors for 2019-2020 include Miss Fire Prevention
Meaghan Andrews, Junior Miss Fire Prevention Elizabeth Schubel, Junior Fire Chief Kamerin Jenkins and Little Fire Chief Devin Youngerman.
They answered questions about fire prevention during a recent ceremony in Walkersville. Outgoing ambassadors Ashley Nalborczyk and Jacob Nalborczyk were on hand to offer support.
"I think we're fortunate to have them. They're a good group who are willing to learn," said Elyssa Cool, co-chair of the FCVFRA ambassadors' committee.
Throughout the year, they will be touting safety messages at various functions throughout the county. They also are called upon to lead the Pledge of Allegiance at meetings.
Fire and rescue officials who would like to invite the ambassadors to activities, should contact Elyssa Cool or Karlea Brown.
