Each year, Mothers Against Drunk Driving, also known as MADD, kicks off the holiday season with their “MADD Tie One On For Safety Holiday” Campaign. This annual effort kicks off the festive season by reminding us to drive safe, sober and buckle up throughout the holiday season. This year the Tie One On For Safety campaign is promoting alternative drink options that won’t get you intoxicated. From November 1 to January 1, the MADD Tie One On For Safety Holiday Campaign urges you to designate a sober driver and to hand over your keys. It’s more important to get home late and alive, than to risk driving drunk or buzzed as statistically the rate of driving impaired spikes throughout this time frame. Mothers Against Drunk Driving began with a mother turning her grief into action sparking a nationwide movement of brave, resilient women. Every statistic is A person. The numbers remind us of the lives lost to drunk and drugged driving every single day. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration: • In 2019, drunk driving deaths represented 28% of all traffic fatalities (36,096) • In 2020, drunk driving deaths represented 30% of all traffic fatalities (38,824) • Every day 32 people are killed in drunk driving crashes or every 45 minutes someone is killed • 2 out of 3 people will be impacted by drunk driving in their lifetime MADD is not against alcohol. MADD is only against drinking and driving and they will do whatever it takes to make drunk driving a thing of the past. Together let’s make this holiday season safer for our loved ones on the roadways and honor the victims of drunk driving by resolving not to drink and drive. |
