Rapid growth has transformed rural areas into suburban enclaves almost overnight, creating an increased number of emergency calls and slower response times. But two proposed fire stations and 50 new career hires are expected to relieve problems and provide better service, said Richard Himes, chief of training for the division of fire and rescue services.

Funding for a new station in Spring Ridge will be available July 1.
