As many of you are aware, I have written that the fire station of the United Steam Fire Engine Co. NO. 3 at 79 South Market Street is the oldest continuously operating fire station in the United States. I have been in recent communications with Paul Vincent, a firefighter in the City of York, PA, historian and Trustee of the Laurel Fire Company in York. He has been doing some extensive research and, at least at this point in his research, concurs that the United Steam Fire Company No. 3 is in fact the oldest continuously operating fire station in America. Below is his list of oldest operational fire stations:

1. United Steam Fire Engine Company No. 3, Frederick, Maryland -1848.
2. Washington Fire Company No. 2, Madison Indiana - Completed in 1850.
3. Bristol Fire Company, Bristol, Pennsylvania - Built in 1857.
4. FDNY engine 26, 1860
5. Central Fire Station, Taunton, Massachusetts - Built in 1869
6. Engine Company 5, Provincetown, Massachusetts 1870
7. Peabody Central Fire Station, Peabody, Massachusetts - 1873
8. West Hill Engine 7, Albany, New York - The quarters of Engine 7. 1874
9. Gorham Street Station, Lowell, Massachusetts - 1875.
10. American Hose Company No. 2, Pottsville, Pa- 1876.
11. Torrent Engine House, Lowell, Massachusetts -1877.
12. Protection Engine Co. 1, Hastings on Hudson, NY 1877.
13. Laurel-Rex fire house York Pa 1877

THANKS PAUL, Great work!
