National Volunteer month in the United States takes place in the month of April. Volunteering used to be instilled at a young age within our country. Most organizations within our towns, counties and state would not function without volunteers. In many families, volunteerism is handed down for many generations.
Many fire and rescue departments are staffed by volunteers and career staff. Although Frederick County has a combination system, the majority of department personnel are volunteers with Frederick County having four 100 % volunteer staffed stations.
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. They come with all different types of backgrounds and knowledge. They volunteer because they want to make a difference in someone’s life. Some are small differences and others create major changes. Volunteers come to donate their time and resources to the efforts of an organization and their missions provide valuable support to communities in times of need.
Things look a bit different in 2021 as many of our programs are still operating according to COVID-19 restrictions. While our normal volunteer events are minimal due to these restrictions, we are always looking for new volunteers.
We recognize the need for volunteers. Our Volunteers are the heart of our 25 volunteer corporations! We realize volunteering may not be at the top of your list of to do things, but we need YOU! Frederick County couldn’t support our service areas without our volunteers!
