Rev. U.S.G. Rupp, pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church, delivered a special sermon to the members of the Independent Hose Company, of which he is chaplain, at the vesper service Sunday evening. About 120 members of the company assembled at the engine hall and, headed by Lewis W. Mehrling, who acted as marshal, marched to the church in a body. As an introductory, the pastor paid a high tribute to the firemen of the city. The city, he said, has been particularly free from disastrous fires and to a large extent the attributed this to the carefulness of citizens, and the watchfulness and care over homes of housewives. Small loss from the fires in Frederick, he said, is because of the quickness of response and alertness on part of the firemen.
